Eiermann zu seinem Entwurf:

“Infolge der Schmalheit des Grundstücks und der engen funktionellen Zusammengehörigkeit von Hochhäusern und Hallenbauten war es nötig, die Gebäude so dicht wie möglich zusammenzurücken. In diesem Zusammenhang war es erforderlich, eine Hochhauskonstruktion anzuwenden, die jede Durchdringung mit der Hallenkonstruktion vermeidet. Aus diesem Grunde wurden beide Hochhäuser als Kelchhäuser mit einem massiv tragenden Gebäudekern ausgebildet, bei dem die Vollgeschosse erst von der 5. Etage an beginnen.“

“Due to the limited dimensions of the plot and the narrow functional togetherness of the high-rise-buildings and the hangars it was necessary to move together the buildings as close as possible. In this context, it was necessary to apply a construction which avoids any penetration between the high-rise and the hall construction. For this reason, both skyscrapers were designed as goblet- houses with a massive core supporting the building. The space for offices starts only from the 5th floor.”
